Our journey to help those with clothing insecurities began with a casual conversation in 2018. An employee of a health care facility in Roxbury, Massachusetts, informed us that there was a dire need for clothing for patients of their inhouse and out-patient addiction programs. Often these patients only had the clothing that they were wearing when entering the program. After gathering donated clothing from friends, neighbors and unsellable clothing items from a local thrift shop, the “Clothes Closet” was created at this medical site.
Over the years, our list of those in need has expanded and have received clothing from us. See our recipients below for the full range of organizations our clothes assist.
We spend many hours gathering clothing, sorting it in a garage (how our organization’s name began) and distributing to our extensive list of those in need. Our journey has brought new contributors of clothing into our lives, just like a talented crocheter who has contributed hundreds of beautiful winter hats for us to distribute.
Clothing insecurity is a major issue in our area. The four seasons of New England requires a variety of clothing from warm coats and hats to shorts and T-shirts. Families often must choose between food and rent, making clothing a last priority of items to purchase. Our team is dedicated to helping those in need of clothing.
